Michelle Obama Wears Custom Jason Wu at State Dinner Honoring Canada's Justin Trudeau
The Obamas served Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and 200 guests at Thursday night's State Dinner.
We are really going to miss Michelle Obama‘s elegant style when a new president takes office.
But in the meantime, lucky for us, FLOTUS is showing how it’s done (yet again) by looking stunning in a custom Jason Wu gown at the state dinner in honor of Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Obama’s strapless midnight blue floral jacquard gown with asymmetrical draping was specially made from the same print that was featured in the designer’s fall 2016 collection. And it’s her third major Jason Wu gown for a state event, the first two memorably being the gowns she wore to both Inaugural Balls.
President Obama and Trudeau matched in black bow ties while Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau donned a Lucian Matis dress.
At Thursday night’s black-tie event, the Obamas welcomed the Prime Minister and 200 guests including Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Mike Myers, Michael J. Fox, Sandra Oh, Nancy Pelosi, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, Saturday Night Live‘s Lorne Michaels, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and Sara Bareilles, who performed after dinner.
Reynolds looked dashing in Burberry while Lively channeled Elizabeth Taylor in Ralph & Russo and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.
Guests dined on Canadian delicacies such as poutine, Nanaimo bars and white chocolate snowballs and Alaskan halibut casserole all prepared by White House executive chef Cris Comerford. The main course featured tender lamb served with Yukon Gold potatoes and spring vegetables, drizzled with Yukon Jack Canadian whisky.
