Lifestyle Style Michelle Obama Enlists Lady Gaga's Favorite Designer for Last State Dinner Dress FLOTUS's dress was a custom design from Hollywood-loved Brandon Maxwell By Naja Rayne Updated on December 19, 2019 09:56 AM Share Tweet Pin Email Photo: Getty(2) Michelle Obama deserves a round of “Applause” for her stunning gown at the White House’s state dinner on Tuesday. The first lady enlisted none other than Lady Gaga’s go-to designer for the night, wearing designer Brandon Maxwell. Obama looked flawless in the all-white strapless ensemble at the black-tie event, greeting the Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his wife Ho Ching in a floor-length gown. Chip Somodevilla/Getty The outfit featured pleats across the top and a belted waist. She kept the jewelry simple, wearing only Butani earrings and two rings, and went for a dramatic smokey eye with a pink lip. The dress was reminiscent of Gaga’s Oscar look this year — also designed by Maxwell, as he’s one of her favorites and best friend — which had a strapless sweetheart neckline and similar lines to Obama’s state dinner dress. “It has been an incredible honor for me and my team to create this dress for the First Lady,” Maxwell said in a statement . “Strong and elegant, she is the embodiment of the woman that inspires me to create, and a role model for women all over the world. I am very thankful for this opportunity.” Tuesday night’s look was also a bit reminiscent of the off the shoulder, blush Naeem Khan creation Michelle wore in May for the Nordic State Dinner, which also featured a cinched waist.
