Just because Michael Strahan is establishing himself as a clothing designer doesn’t mean his kids don’t still give him a hard time about his personal style.

The 44-year-old dad to Tanita, 24, Michael Jr., 21, and twins Sophia and Isabella, 11, told PEOPLE at his JCPenney photo shoot on Long Island that changing his look comes with advice from his brood.

“All four of my kids are here today and they definitely have opinions on what I wear,” he says. “They have opinions about my hairstyle. When I cut my hair like this — I had much more of a mohawk before– they hated it!”

But like any dad, he loves to embarrass his kids and says their comments make him want to keep his buzzed look a little longer.

The Live! With Kelly and Michael host (for the next week) is following up his line of suits with a men’s active lifestyle apparel line called MSX by Michael Strahan sold exclusively at JCPenney.

“Everybody knows me for wearing suits but in order to get to work I have to wear something else and I’m very big into athleisure,” he says. “So that’s how this came about. It’s kind of the extension of my full day — what we call ‘every wear for everywhere.'”

The line, which will be sold online and in stores beginning on May 21st, includes shorts, pants, hoodies, shirts, and jackets.

The former NFL player says the line is sold in regular sizes as well as Big and Tall, which has been helpful for him and his built figure. “The most challenging thing is finding something that fits proportion-wise,” he says. “I think the whole fashion thing is very interesting to me — to find something that really fits you right and for your body type.”

And though he advises every man dress for his own style, there is one style he can’t support: the super-skinny-jean.

“I don’t mind skinny jeans but the ultra skinny jean? Those things look too tight on the mannequin,” he says. “I don’t understand how human beings are actually wearing those. I don’t want to be able read the serial number off the money in your pocket because your jeans are so tight.”
