The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala always brings a major star hair change. And this year Katie Holmes might take the title for biggest mane transformation. Or she might be playing a prank on us. The star stepped out with a chin-grazing bob and blunt bangs, and the look has some editors yelling, “Cut!” and others yelling back, “No, wig!” But we finally got to the bottom of the great hair debate.

It’s a wig! Holmes’s stylist DJ Quintero used Alterna Haircare products to style her faux bob, which featured heavy bangs and razored ends. Holmes shared a ton of getting ready snaps on Instagram, posing with Quintero who teased the “cut” with his scissors.

The cropped style is reminiscent of the banged bob the actress sported at the 2008 Met Gala, which was definitely the real deal.

Holmes, 36, and her designer date Zac Posen shared a video of their glamorous walk through the park in route to the red carpet. Her blue dress by the designer featured embroidered clouds along the skirt and side cutouts.

What do you think of Holmes’s hair? Do you hope it’s real? How about her dress? Sound off below.
