The actress says that at 33, she's going the classic route

Mena Suvari has had her share of fashion fun, but now that she’s 33, the actress is changing her aesthetic a bit.

“I think I was all over the place,” she told PEOPLE of her past personal style at the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M bash in New York on Tuesday. Now, “I love classic pieces, timeless pieces. I see myself thinking about my age … and now I just want to keep it classy.”

Though the Margiela ensemble she wore for Tuesday’s party was a risk, Suvari said it still fits her newfound fashion parameters. “I think inherently, I’ve always been the kind of person that loves anything that’s different,” she explained. “Even when we had the fitting yesterday, there was a beautiful black dress that was unbelievable, but then I tried this on and I thought that this was so unique — and I am that person who would do that.”

Describing her current aesthetic as “edgy and minimalistic,” Suvari said she’s loving leather for fall. And she’s currently searching for the one perfect piece to complete her autumn wardrobe.

“I feel like I’m on the endless hunt for an amazing, really chunky black knit cardigan,” she said. “I’m always in a store looking for it, and I can’t find it anywhere!” Have a recommendation? Leave it in the comments! And tell us: Has your style evolved with age?
