A Surprise Wedding!
On New Year's Eve, Maria Menounos and her longtime love Keven Undergaro got married during Fox’s New Year’s Eve live broadcast just before midnight in a surprise ceremony, which was officiated by her co-host Steve Harvey.
"I’ve always wanted it to be super intimate and even though this is the opposite, we can only invite our immediate family, so the pressure of who to invite is gone. This was just so perfect," she told PEOPLE.
Finding the Dress
Her decision to marry Undergaro on live TV (after dating him for 20 years!) was the easy part. Finding the perfect gown was a little bit harder. "So my thought first was, 'Oh I’ll just get like a beautiful cream color or something,'" she said. "And then I was like, 'Wait a second, you see a wedding on TV and you still want to see a dress.' Why would I gyp myself of that moment?"
Her Dream Design
Menounos scoured Pinterest for gown inspiration even though she said she's "never really been that girl that's done that" and enlisted the help of her publicist before falling in love with her Atelier Pronovias mermaid gown with a detachable coat and long sleeves.
"The idea was I want to be appropriate for Times Square. It’s a winter wedding, it’s cold, I don’t want to be out there in lik this strapless thing," Menounos said.
How She Knew She Found 'The One'
To put it simply, the star's dream gown "took my breath away."
She knew the Pronovias gown was hers "when I started crying," Menounos said. "I was like, 'This is clearly the dress.'"
Menounos admitted the ceremony required a lot of moving parts. "Production-wise, I may have one or two minutes to get into this thing," she told us. "I’m getting dressed in a storage container in Time Square in the freezing cold!"
A Family Affair
Menounos kept the wedding under wraps to almost everyone, including her mom Litsa (pictured above), so they could be surprised. The couple did tell Undergaro's mother (“she wouldn’t have come otherwise!") and a few close friends about their secret.
A Special Vow
The traditional vow "in sickness and in health" took on a serious meaning for this couple, as Undergaro supported Menounos when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor last summer.
In his vows, Undergaro said, "I will be with you in brain tumors and in health and I will be with you in this life and the next and I cannot wait to finally call you my wife."
