Marchesa's Georgina Chapman Admires Helena Bonham Carter

Whether on the arm of her powerful producer husband, Harvey Weinstein, or swathed in her own frothy designs, Marchesa co-founder Georgina Chapman looks more like her celebrity clientele than a behind-the-scenes designer. However, the 34-year-old former model (and new mom) swears her polished finish is merely a façade. “I look much more civilized than I actually am,” she admits in the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar. “I’m actually an incredibly disorganized, messy person. My mother says I’m like a disease that can walk into a room and get it infected. I can destroy things in seconds.” (Ouch!) And though her and partner Keren Craig’s designs are of the ultra-feminine variety, beloved by stars including Blake Lively and Halle Berry, her personal style icon is best known for quirkier choices: Helena Bonham Carter is “a genius,” she declares. “Why not wear two different colored shoes?,” she counters regarding the stars’ much-maligned Golden Globes ensemble. “More is more!” To read about Chapman’s pre-show jitters and struggling artist era, visit harpersbazaar.com or pick up the April issue, on newsstands March 29. —Justine Harman
