For Ralph Lauren Fragrances’ Polo Blue scent collection, the brand is enlisting the help of a heavy hitter, literally. 

UFC mixed martial arts champion Luke Rockhold has been tapped as the fresh face of the Polo Blue franchise (including the brand’s latest scent, Polo Ultra Blue, which hits shelves in March). To celebrate his new role outside of the octagon, the professional athlete sat down with PeopleStyle to talk about the scent, his successful career and taking his “sex symbol” status in stride.

On being the face of a fragrance…

“It wasn’t on my radar, but I’m so happy to be here and to be with them and I couldn’t imagine it being better fit. At the beginning it was hard to fathom. But now, it feels so right.”

On flexing his acting muscles…

“I’m not going to lie, it was a bit exhausting. I can train all day but to come into that world and do this five-day shoot from dusk to dawn was a bit draining. But I’m a competitive person. I never turn down a challenge. And to see it come to life, I know all the work was worthwhile.”

On his favorite aspect of the scent…

“I’m a coastal guy; I grew up on the water surfing and my brother is a professional surfer so the ocean has always been a part of my life, and this scent definitely brings that fresh, aromatic feel of the ocean. [The scent combines bergamot and basil with salt accords.] It’s powerful, not overstated.”

On starring in the campaign opposite model Romee Strijd…

“Romee was really sweet; she is a good soul. She was easy to get along with and we definitely fed off of each other and had great chemistry together during the shoot.” (See for yourself below!)

On being a sex symbol…

“I never consider myself a sex symbol of sorts but, I try to carry myself in the best way possible and if I’m considered a sex symbol, I will embrace that — it’s an honor.”

On his secret to success…

“I’m a big believer in just living outside your comfort zone. You find out so much more about yourself when you push yourself further in life. You have to take risks to get rewards. Nobody achieves anything great in life without putting themselves out there. Press and push further and you’ll achieve amazing things in life.”

Polo Ultra Blue follows the brand’s Polo Blue EdP, which was released in 2016, and the original Polo Blue EdT, which launched the portfolio in 2002.
