Losing It Fast
She put on 30 lbs. while carrying Lola (born June 1), but Richards, 34 (from left, on May 30, June 17 and now), had a secret weight-loss weapon: It s called the Stress Diet, she says, half-joking, – and alluding to having filed for divorce (from Charlie Sheen) in her sixth month of pregnancy. But mostly she can thank her work with trainer Garrett Warren: She’s been kickboxing and doing abdominal exercises four to six times weekly – and adhering to a portion-controlled diet.
“My mom said after she had my brother that was the best her body had ever looked,” Spears (from left, while pregnant and one month after giving birth) told PEOPLE in June. “Having a child inspired her.” Spears, who had Sean Preston on Sept. 14, is already getting back in shape. One major tip for new moms: “Sleep is important in keeping the body fat off,” says celeb trainer Gunnar Peterson.
I spend so much time running after (3-year-old daughter) Ella, I m not thinking about (losing weight), says Taylor, who gave birth to son Quinlin on July 10. Her pregnancy did jump-start a healthier diet, though: I craved cottage cheese. Nutritionist-trainer Philip Goglia also recommends staying hydrated. “Water intake helps with lactation,” he says, “and helps use fat as energy more effectively.”

Doctors say new moms who severely cut calories and go on workout binges risk losing more than extra pounds. A dramatic weight loss would affect the supply and quality of the milk, says Dr. Sheryl Ross, a Santa Monica gynecologist. We recommend losing only 1 to 2 lbs. a week.”
One lesson Evans (from left, while pregnant and one month after) got from pregnancy: It s not necessary to eat as much as most of us do, says the country singer, who put on 55 lbs. with her first child, Avery, 6, then lost 70. Her next two kids, Olivia, 2, and Audrey, 1, were each a quick 40 lbs. on and off. Now I wait for my stomach to growl before I eat.
“Victoria eats healthily,” a friend says of the former Posh Spice (from left, while pregnant and one month after). “She eats loads of fruits and vegetables, and has chicken and fish; no red meat.” The mother of Brooklyn, 6, Romeo, 3, and Cruz, 8 months, also nixes coffee and tea. As for working out? “She doesn’t exercise at all,” says the friend.
