UNIVERSAL CITY, CA - APRIL 20: Sarah Hyland visit

Sarah Hyland’s glowy skin and smoky eye combo (so summer-y and super-sexy!) from her guest appearance on Extra at in Universal City, Calif., was an instant editor favorite. From her subtle glow to her shimmery eye shadow, it’s a great look for spring and summer. And because we’re ready for warmer weather and wondering how to fake a tan as well as Hyland, we reached out to her makeup artist, Allan Avendaño, for the exclusive details on how to re-create her look from home. (In case you’re wondering, the 24-year-old Modern Family star opted for a strapless white Tamara Mellon romper, which she accessorized with a pair of strappy black-and-yellow pumps and delicate gold jewels. But enough about her wardrobe — let’s talk beauty!)

Because summer is right around the corner (can’t you feel it?), Avendaño wanted Hyland to look tan, toned and ready for the beach. “The inspiration for her look was the spring and summer season,” he tells PEOPLE. “Sarah embraces the warm weather and she had a beautiful tan, so we wanted to accentuate that natural glow she had going on.”

Avendaño prepped her skin with Talika Eye Therapy Patches to “reduce any under eye fatigue stemming from Sarah’s busy schedule,” he says. (Something we all could use, right?) He then hydrated her face and décolletage with Orlane Paris Super Moisturizing Light Cream.

To perfect her complexion, Avendaño then used two different shades of DiorSkin Star Foundation. (Pro tip: To create dimension, he applied the lighter shade in the center of the face and the darker shade on the edges.) He finished the skin with a light dusting of DiorSkin Nude Air Powder to set it.

For an added bronzy glow, the makeup pro applied the bronzer from Charlotte Tilbury’s Film Star Bronze and Glow palette under her cheekbones, hairline and jawline, and then applied the highlighter on the apples of her cheeks into her cupid’s bow and the bridge of her nose.

Now, it’s time to talk about those brows. “Eyebrows are also trademark of Sarah’s. Her big beautiful brows were ever so slightly accentuated and filled in with the powder brow palette from Anastasia Beverly Hills,” he says. “I dipped my angle brush into the dark brown shades and followed the direction of her hair for a natural yet defined look.”

To nail that shimmery smoky eye, Avendaño’s goal was to keep the star’s eyes the focus of the look. “[Her eyes] are just big, beautiful and green,” he says. “I wanted to keep them looking bright and open, so I opted for bronze shadows.” After covering the lids with the bronze and nude shades in Dior’s 5 Couleurs Summer 2015 Limited Edition Palette to give her eyes “shape and depth,” he gave added false lashes from Ardell on the outer corners of her eyes for a “flirty, fluttery” feel and finished with a few flicks of DiorShow Iconic Overcurl mascara in Over Black.

Avendaño kept the star’s lips soft and nude, first lining with Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Pillow Talk and then filling in with the brand’s K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Hepburn Honey.

And how did the pro add shine and moisture to the rest of Hyland’s body? Slathering on Kiehl’s Creme de Corps for “that all day touchable soft skin.”

“[The body lotion] also made her tan really even and beautiful,” he adds.

This gorgeous look is just one of the many Avendaño has perfected for the star over the years as her makeup artist. “I have been working with Sarah since the start of Modern Family in 2009 — so almost six years,” he says of his relationship with the star. “She is one of my favorite faces to work on and has certainly become one of my best friends. We always have an incredible time joking/laughing, as well as having life talks. I’m very lucky to have a client and a friend like her!”
