Look of the Week: Rachel McAdams' Holiday-Inspired Shimmery Eye and Bold Lip Combo
Find out how to get the star's look -- straight from her glam squad!
We’re constantly updating our Last Night’s Look gallery with all the best red-carpet moments (gorgeous dresses! dazzling accessories! sky-high heels!). Now, let’s talk beauty. Each week, we’ll be highlighting one of the most gorgeous makeup and/or hair moments, along with details on how to recreate the look — straight from the makeup artist or hairstylist — in our feature, Look of the Week.
The holiday season is officially upon us! And ’tis the season to have a little more fun with your beauty looks than usual. Thanks to these gorgeous star-loved dos, you already know how to style your hair, but now, we’ve got your exact makeup look — a shimmery eye paired with a bold lip — courtesy of Rachel McAdams at the IFP Gotham Independent Film Awards in N.Y.C. To get all the deets on the glam look, we reached out to celebrity makeup artist Romy Soleimani for the beauty breakdown, below.
Drawing inspiration from both McAdams’ Swiss-dot black Noam Hanoch crop top jumpsuit as well as French fashion photographer Guy Bourdin, Soleimani opted for a colorful makeup look to complement the otherwise all-black ensemble, creating a makeup moment she calls “sexy, confident, color.”
“Rachel was wearing all black, so I wanted to choose something bright and fun,” she tells PeopleStyle.
And according to the makeup pro, McAdams was totally on board. “Rachel is really confident and she knows what she likes, but usually just lets me do my thing,” she says. “She is a pleasure to work with.”
So to get the “bright” look, Soleimani began by prepping Rachel’s skin with Dr. Colbert Illumino Anti-Aging Brightening Mask to keep the skin “very fresh,” and then evened out her complexion with ByTerry Touch Expert Advanced Concealer.
Moving on to the eyes, Soleimani applied a sheer layer of a taupe-grey shadow (the center top shade in the ByTerry Eye Designer Palette in Smokey Nude) on the star’s lash line and up to the crease to create a base. She then layered the Kevyn Aucoin Eye Shadow Duo in Bloodroses on the top of the lid and under the eye, creating a sheer, shimmery bordeaux hue that “brought out the green in Rachel’s eyes.”
After coating the actress’s lashes with Chanel Inimitable Mascara in Black, Soleimani added a touch of cream blush (RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek in Modest) to the apples of McAdams’s cheeks for a subtle flush of color.

Finally, the makeup guru filled in McAdams’ pout with Kevyn Aucoin “Flesh Tone” Lip Liner in Cerise mixed with Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipstick in Bratpack, plus a dab of M.A.C Cosmetics’ Lipstick in Lady Danger, to create a vivid coral color, which popped even under the bright lights. But Soleimani says she could have done anything and McAdams would have looked great.
“Rachel has a perfect face for makeup,” Soleimani tells PeopleStyle. “She is a chameleon she can do any hair color and any makeup look. It is so much fun to make her up as she is really open.”
