Sofia Richie, the 18-year-old daughter of musician Lionel Richie, is picking up steam on the modeling scene. In September, she walked in Kanye West’s Yeezy fashion show in New York, and now she’s on the campaign trail, having just shot a new ad for Tommy Hilfiger.

Her latest gig is for Michael Kors, starring in the new chapter of the designer’s The Walk series. “I enjoy the authenticity in his collection,” Richie tells PEOPLE exclusively of working with Kors.

As for why she got the job, Kors says Richie “embodies youthful edge, energy and excitement all at once.” And having a famous pop didn’t hurt: “And she’s music royalty, so she has this fabulous mix of confidence and attitude that make her style so intriguing,” says the designer.

She also took some advice from her “musically royal” dad to the set. “My dad’s advice is to always have fun with everything I do,” Richie says. “And when I get to set to give 1,000 percent and surrender to the moment.”

Her big sister, Nicole Richie, has also given her some tips for navigating the world of modeling and fame. “Nicole has taught me to be confident within myself and comfortable at the same time,” she says. “And to not let the small things get to you.” (Which she has not yet, as she was the subject of much online adulation and scrutiny when she was spotted with Justin Bieber earlier this year.)

So, what does she wear when she’s not sporting Michael Kors bags through the streets of New York City? “Baggy boyfriend jeans,” she says. “They’re super chill.”
