Lena Dunham's 5 Unofficial Style Rules

BEFRIEND A BIG-NAME DESIGNER
When Lena Dunham got invited to the Golden Globes, she knew who to call – and she knew he’d pick up. That’s because Zac Posen, the designer of the off-the-shoulder gown, used to be the TV star’s babysitter (he also created her high school graduation dress).

MAKE BOTTOMS OPTIONAL
The actress is unabashed about stripping down on her show, and that boldness extends to her life off-camera too. Lena got everyone talking when she attended an event in L.A. back in September wearing what seemed to be nothing but an oversize tunic. Though it came out later that she’d been wearing itty-bitty shorts underneath.

TAKE OFF ONE THING BEFORE LEAVING THE HOUSE
You’ve heard it before: Remove one accessory prior to walking out the door. Lena followed the rule by showing up to the Girls season two premiere minus a pair of underwear, something she – shocker – openly admitted to.

CHOOSE COMFORT OVER STYLE
There’s no need to suffer for fashion, according to Lena, who interrupted her own acceptance speech at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in November to ditch her super-high heels, saying, “I have to take my shoes off, you guys. I’m so sorry.”

KEEP 'EM GUESSING
One of the reasons it was so difficult to choose the perfect Golden Globes look for Lena? Her red carpet style is as unpredictable as her show. One day it’s a sparkling ball gown, another it’s a fashion-forward high-low dress, then it’s a sheer, bra-revealing top with a thigh-grazing mini and peep-toes.
