The actress knew her Monique Lhuillier dress was "the one" the second she saw it
And the bride wore… Monique Lhuillier!
Lea Michele wed Zandy Reich, the president of AYR clothing company, in an intimate ceremony in Northern California on Saturday night, and kept everything about her bridal look as timeless and classic as the romantic setting.
The actress walked down the aisle in a custom Monique Lhuillier dress fit for a princess. She chose a strapless gown with structural sweetheart neckline and silk gazar draped over the corset-style bodice. The voluminous hand-tufted skirt and cathedral-length veil made from hand-appliquéd lace created the ultimate fairytale silhouette.
Some brides take months to find their perfect wedding dress, but for Michele, she knew she found the perfect one the second she saw it.

“I get chills when I think about Monique, and how much I love her,” Michele exclusively tells PEOPLE about the designer. “I’d seen a dress on [the brand’s] Instagram from the Spring 2019 collection — The Luna — and I was like, ‘That’s my wedding dress.'”
Michele says she gravitated towards the classic princess-style shape because it withstands trends and fashion fads. “My dress is very classic, which was very important to me. It’s important to [Zandy and me] that we look back on our photos, and that they’re classic. I wanted to stay away from a lot of current trends.”
With some help from her go-to stylist Brad Goreski, they set up an appointment with the designer (whom Michele describes as the “queen of all queens”) and she, her mom and Goreski all went to the atelier for a fitting.
“Monique is so beautiful, and so talented and she let me try on every single dress,” Michele says of the designer whom she wears regularly on the red carpet. “But the last one I tried on was that one that I saw online and I absolutely loved it. In the entire wedding process, that was one of my most favorite moments, being at that fitting with Brad, and with my mom, and letting my mom see me wearing my wedding dress for the first time was so magical.”
“Once she put it on, we knew. Joyful tears followed,” Lhuillier tells PEOPLE about the fitting.
Michele and Lhuillier worked closely for nine months throughout the design process, where Michele stopped by for a few more fittings. “My dad came for one, which was hilarious,” she says.” We practiced dancing together, which was great. And my best friend, Becca has come. I went with her for her dress fittings when she got married, and so it was really important that she came with me to try on mine, as well.”
“Working with Lea was an absolute dream,” Lhuillier tells PEOPLE. “I’ve had the pleasure of dressing her through the years, so when she asked me to design her wedding gown I was truly honored. Lea is a fashion girl and knows what works on her. She came with a vision and together we made it a reality.”
In addition to her brand new wedding ring, the star accessorized her wedding dress with a pair of Neil Lane pear-shaped diamond and platinum earrings totaling approximately 6 carats, pictured above.

The couple, who have been dating for about two years, got engaged on April 29, 2018.
“I think the first thing I said to him was, ‘Stop joking around!’ So I was super surprised,” Michele told PEOPLE at the time. “Everyone said, ‘Try to be present because it’ll happen so quickly.’ Which I didn’t listen to at all and blacked out and I barely remember. We both blacked out and were like, ‘What? Did we say yes? Is this happening?'”
The actress had a number of costars in attendance at her nuptials including Glee pals Darren Criss and Becca Tobin, as well as Scream Queens actress Emma Roberts.
