The actresses and activists told PEOPLE they are proud to represent a brand that encourages them to use their platforms to stand up and speak out

Lana Condor and Jenna Ortega are the newest global ambassadors of Neutrogena — and both actresses are taking young Hollywood by storm.

Condor, 23, shot to fame after her heartwarming and totally relatable portrayal as Lara Jean Covey in Netflix’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and the sequel. She will reprise her role in the third installment of the series, Always and Forever, Lara Jean, and is also set to star in HBO Max’s upcoming sci-fi rom-com Moonshot.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old Ortega made a name for herself on the Disney Channel series Stuck in the Middle and also appeared in Jane the Virgin and You. Next, she will star as Jennifer Garner's daughter in the upcoming Netflix comedy Yes, Day (which the actress, 48, also produced).

But despite their busy schedules, both rising stars continue to make speaking out about social issues a priority and have emerged as activists in their communities.

During virtual interviews with PEOPLE, Condor and Ortega share how Neutrogena has inspired them to use their voices – and explain why partnering with the iconic brand is about so much more than makeup and skincare.

“I have been very vocal about many topics I feel very passionate about, including education, diversity, Black Lives Matter, self-care and mental health," Condor tells PEOPLE. "The first memo I  ever received from Neutrogena said they just wanted to give me a platform so I can feel empowered to use my voice and feel like I have a safe space to connect with people that follow me."

"It means the world that Neutrogena saw something in me and wanted to partner with me," she continues.

Ortega adds that inking a major beauty contract at just 17 years old feels “very surreal.”

“I feel like I’m in a dream. I’m just waiting for someone to pinch me and for me to wake up,” she says. “Especially with a brand that I’ve been familiar with all my life and that I’ve used since I started needing to take better care of my skin. It’s a dream come true and something I’m very grateful for.”

The You actress dabbled in Neutrogena cult classics like the Pink Grapefruit Oil-Free Acne Wash and the Makeup Remover Towelettes as a kid so she could spend more time with her sister who is 10 years older: “She would be washing her face so I would ask if I could wash my face with her,” Ortega remembers.

Condor says her mom introduced her to the brand at a young age — "momma knows best!" — and can't wait to share the news of her daughter's partnership with friends and family.

"She's counting down the days to the launch!" Condor shares.

Much like her mom, the Netflix star's longtime boyfriend Anthony De La Torre fully supports her Neutrogena partnership (and the products themselves!).

Although De La Torre isn't a full-fledged skincare junkie just yet, he has spent enough time with Condor to know that, even after a long day of work, sleeping with makeup on is a cardinal skin. So as a sweet reminder, Condor says her boyfriend started putting Neutrogena makeup wipes on her bedside table.

"He even goes the extra mile of throwing a wipe at me when I'm falling asleep," she says with a laugh, adding, "He's really into taking care of my skin!"

As is Condor (when she's not too tired to take off her makeup!). Skincare is one of her favorite pastimes, and she says she has been focusing her routine and practicing self-care during quarantine.

The star tells PEOPLE that, despite her excitement, the reality of representing Neutrogena alongside longtime brand ambassadors like Garner and Kerry Washington hasn't sunken in just yet.

"The idea of these iconic faces welcoming me into the family...Wow!" the actress — who regularly binge watches Garner's viral "pretend cooking show" and Washington's ABC drama Scandal says in disbelief. "It's crazy."

Ortega says that after years of watching Garner's iconic "face splash" during Neutrogena commercials, she can't wait to join her on-screen mom as a global ambassador.

"I texted her after I found out. We talked about it," the Disney Channel star says of her Neutrogena gig. "[Garner] is such a mom in the best way possible. She's a warm hug, personified!"

"The great thing about Neutrogena is that their ambassadors are very inspiring, outspoken and strong women," Ortega continues. "I am so excited to be a part of a brand that emphasizes the importance of inner beauty as well outer, and knows that the whole point of skincare and makeup is really just to feel comfortable in your skin."
