Lady Gaga Gets a 'La Vie en Rose' Tattoo on Her Spine to Pay Tribute to 'A Star Is Born'

The pop star's new tattoo is inspired by her character Ally in A Star Is Born

Lady Gaga has a permanent piece of A Star Is Born inked on her body forever.

The award-winning actress and singer, 32, debuted a large, brand new tattoo on her spine that pays tribute to her role in the acclaimed musical-drama — just in time for Valentine’s Day.

“Happy Valentine’s Day. A tattoo toast to “la vie en rose” by the beautiful @winterstone my spinal cord is now a rose,” Gaga wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the completed tattoo of an intricate outline of a single rose on a long stem with the words, “la vie en rose” written in script beside it.

The Édith Piaf song plays an important role in A Star Is Born. When Bradley Cooper‘s character Jackson Maine stops at a drag bar for a night cap, he stumbles upon Gaga’s character Ally beautifully performing “La Vie en Rose” onstage and is instantly transfixed.

“I wanted to put him in a situation where you would think he would behave a certain way but he doesn’t at all. I didn’t want her to sing a song that she had written, and ‘La Vie en Rose’ is a song that I’d heard her sing in real life for the first time,” Cooper, who both directed and starred in the film, told Digital Spy. “It felt like a drag bar would be the perfect place to explore and then define for the audience who these people are.”

But that isn’t the only musical-inspired tat Gaga got.

The star also got the musical notes “G” and “A” on sheet lines of sheet music tattooed onto the inside of her arm to spell out her famous moniker.

“G A G A…and when you get a tattoo and you’re me you always have to get two 😂,” she captioned the picture. “also by @winterstone and also a matching tattoo w my bestie and manager @wanaynay.”

But one fan realized the pop star’s ink was inaccurate. “A staff has 5 lines Gaga what…” one fan commented on the now-deleted picture. Gaga replied, “what a drunk musical crisis. 😂 I studied music theory…that’s what happens when u drink and tattoo.”

She quickly jumped back on Instagram to share her updated tattoo with all five lines correctly in place. “As a music theory student I’m appalled, as someone having fun with their friends I’m relieved.🎼😂,” Gaga captioned the video.

Gaga most recently took home the 2019 Grammy Award for best song written for visual media for “Shallow” in A Star Is Born at this year’s ceremony on Feb. 10.

“I’m not gonna be able to wear any makeup tonight. We just won our first of Grammy nominations for the night. I’m in tears with honor and gratitude. Thank you @RecordingAcad #Grammys #Grammy and my co-writers and Bradley I love you so much thank you,” the pop star wrote on Twitter.
