Kyra Sedgwick Reveals Which Red Carpet Look with Husband Kevin Bacon 'Went Wrong'
The actress doesn't consider their outfits at the 1997 Golden Globes one of their best
"There's a great picture of Kevin and me at the Golden Globes in, like, 19-something," Sedgwick, 55, tells PEOPLE of the couple's ensembles at the 1997 Golden Globe Awards in this week's issue on newsstands Friday.
Bacon, 62, dressed in a head-to-toe black velvet tuxedo with red-tinted wayfarer glasses, while Sedgwick wore a powder blue jacket, white blouse, high-shine silver trousers and peep-toe heels.
"I had on this turquoise blue suit and he wore a crushed-velvet suit. We just kind of went wrong," the actress admits.
"I know that I made the worst dressed [list] that evening. I know it," she adds. "And I think Kevin did too."
These days, the longtime couple got even closer amid the COVID-19 pandemic. When Bacon caught up with PEOPLE in July 2020, he opened up about quarantining with Sedgwick and getting used to their new routine. "We cook, we clean, we decide what we're having for the next meal, and then we cook it, clean it and decide what we're having for the next meal," the actor said.
But there's no one he'd rather be stuck with at home with. "Her partnership is invaluable," said Bacon. "I found someone I was meant to be with."
During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Sedgwick said "the secret to a happy marriage is that you don't spend 24/7 together."
"But the amazing thing is, and a surprise even to me, that like after 32 years, he always wakes up before I do in the morning and I come downstairs during this COVID time and I'm like, 'How'd you sleep? How's your morning been so far?' And I really care. I really want to know," she said.
Sedgwick also told Kimmel about the time she convinced her husband to give her a bikini wax while they were on lockdown.
"It became clear at one point to me, to both of us, that I needed a bikini line wax," Sedgwick said on the show. "Part of me was like, 'How hard could it be?' You know, I've watched these amazing ladies do it all these years, and like, I've always really appreciated them and appreciated their attention to detail, but I didn't really think it would be that hard."
She added: "Kevin, is like, incredibly handy. Like he's really good with a lot of things… So we both figured, 'How hard could it be?'"
Even though Sedgwick did some online research to find the "best wax kit," getting the job done proved to be a bit more challenging than they both expected.
"I'm not saying it was a disaster, but the fact that we did not have to go to the emergency room was just an absolute miracle," Sedgwick jokingly said of the "agonizing" experience.
