If rain on your wedding day is lucky, then your wedding dress catching fire almost surely guarantees a long and happy marriage — right? That might not be exactly how the old saying goes, but for Kym Johnson and Robert Herjavec, it’s certainly appropriate.

The former Dancing with the Stars partners, who wed in Los Angeles on July 31, were in the middle of their ceremony when Shark Tank’s Herjavec noticed something was amiss.

“We smelled something and we thought, is someone having a barbecue?” he tells PEOPLE exclusively. “Then we realized that Kym’s dress was on fire!”

It turns out that the train of Johnson’s Monique Lhuillier gown had passed over a candle on her way to the altar.

“I almost went up in flames!” says Johnson. “Thank God my man of honor stomped it out with his foot. But underneath my dress is completely singed.”

An unforgettable memory — and an unmissable memento — of a truly unforgettable night. And it’s one way to ensure that your love burns eternal.
