Kim Kardashian Remembers the 'Sentimental Necklace' Nearly Stolen from Her in 2016 Paris Robbery
Find out how the meaningful piece of jewelry, which Kardashian bought with one of her first paychecks, made its way back to her
When Kim Kardashian West was robbed at gunpoint in a terrifying Paris heist over two years ago, the star lost millions of dollars worth of jewelry, including a $4 million ring. But one of the star’s most sentimental pieces was able to make its way back to her.
Kardashian West, 38, decided to open up more about the horrific event on Instagram Monday by sharing a throwback photo of herself wearing the one special necklace that was stolen, and later returned, to her.
“2007 throwback. So this necklace that I have on is a diamond cross from Jacob [one of Kardashian West’s jewelers] and it was the first piece of jewelry that I bought when I got my first check,” the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star wrote.
“When I was at robbed this was taken from me. However on the way out the robbers dropped one piece of jewelry in the street and this was it. It’s very sentimental to me. Just wanted to share ✨,” she added.
Kardashian West was held at gunpoint and robbed of $10 million in jewels at her hotel room during Paris Fashion Week in October 2016. The robbery took place at about 3 a.m. local time Monday when five men in ski masks and police jackets arrived at the No Address Hotel in Paris where Kardashian West was staying demanding to be taken to her room, according to Reuters.
Two men entered Kardashian West’s room, bound her hands and feet with tape then locked her in the bathroom before stealing a jewelry box worth $6.7 million in jewelry and a ring worth $4 million, police sources told La Parisien. Along with the jewelry, her purse, two cell phones and 1,000 euros were also taken from her room.
In the months following the traumatic incident, Kardashian West took a break from social media, refrained from wearing flashy diamonds (besides her simple gold wedding band) and now, no longer keeps jewelry insider her home.

“Kim loves her new house. She wants to create the safest, best house for the kids. Along with their security team, Kim and Kanye have made plans to keep intruders out. Their new property is huge and requires even more 24/7 security staff. To keep the house safer, Kim doesn’t want expensive possessions like jewelry at the house,” the source added.
“I know this sounds crazy, but I know that was meant to happen to me,” she said as she teared up. “I don’t want to start crying, but … I’m such a different person I really feel like things happen in your life to teach you things.”
“It was probably no secret, you see it on the show me being flashy, but I was definitely materialistic before,” Kardashian West continued. “Not that there’s anything bad about having things and working hard to get those things — and I’m really proud of everyone that’s around me that’s successful. But I’m so happy that my kids get this me. And that this is who is raising my kids. Because I just don’t care about that stuff anymore, I really don’t.”
Though now, Kardashian West has slowly started wearing more diamonds and bling to red carpet events, while making sure she always has ample security by her side.
She made an exception to her “no jewelry” rule at the 2018 Tiffany Blue Book Collection in October by accessorizing a daring low-back dress with statement diamond pieces from Tiffany & Co. including multiple rings and a diamond choker.
Still, Kardashian West made sure to point out on her social media that the expensive pieces were not hers and she had beefed up her security detail for the event.
“Look at these jewels I get to borrow for the night — I have security with me and they [the jewels] leave me after the night,” she told her fans on her Instagram Stories as she was driving to the event, adding, “I turn into Cinderella.”
