Just hours before the horrifying hotel room robbery, all anyone could talk about was that the queen of megawatt glamour, Kim Kardashian, showed up to Balenciaga’s fashion show in Paris without a single stitch of makeup. Don’t believe it? Neither did we — until her longtime makeup artist spilled all of the details, including the (very few) products that went into creating her totally natural look.

“We just decided to not do any makeup that day,” Mario Dedivanovic tells PeopleStyle. “She got dressed, and we thought she looked so beautiful the way she was, just like that. She had a spray tan done, and her skin just looked so beautiful, and so we just decided, ‘Let’s go for it! No makeup.'”

And by “no makeup,” he’s not talking about some concealer here and there — he’s talking about literally no makeup whatsoever. “We said, if we’re gonna go for it, let’s really go for it,” Dedivanovic shares. “I applied the Tatcha Supple Moisture Rich Silk Cream to give her skin a nice glow, Glossier’s ‘Balm.com’ lip balm, and we curled the lashes with a Surratt Beauty eyelash curler. That was it — I loved the feel of it.”

As for her eyes, Dedivanovic says Kardashian’s skin is a bit darker around her lids, creating a natural shadow that gives the illusion of eyeshadow. And while her extra-long lashes often appear to be the work of a set of extensions, that’s not the case either. “She has super long and thick natural lashes, so a lot of people thought they were extensions, but no, those are her natural lashes,” Dedivanovic admits.

We had to prod him just a bit. C’mon — not even a hint of tinted moisturizer? But Dedivanovic swears Kardashian’s gorgeous glow was simply the result of her spray tan.

“Because she had a spray tan, her skin was really nice and even and had a nice glow and color to it. I think that’s what really helped the skin look even and glowy.”

Even before stepping out totally barefaced, though, you might have noticed that Kardashian had already been toning down her glam, a decision that Dedivanovic says came naturally but gradually.

“We’ve been doing cleaner looks in the past month,” he says. “I’m not sure why the switch happened, it’s just refreshing and something different. I thought it was time.”
