Khloé Kardashian Went 'Bronde' a 'While Ago' as Fans Question Her Darker Hair During Self-Isolation
A source tells PEOPLE that the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star’s hair change isn’t new
Khloé Kardashian had everyone doing a double take on Friday when she debuted a totally different "bronde" hair color on Instagram. But while many fans were loving Kardashian's darker hue, some called out the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star for appearing to have had help from her colorist while Californians are still under a stay-at-home mandate and hair salons remain closed.
Meghan McCain was one of the first to point out the timing of Kardashian's color change in a tweet. "Is it bad my reaction to the Khloe Kardashian picture going viral isn’t about the photo but that she changed her hair color - and it’s yet another celebrity getting their hair done when we’re not supposed to...." wrote The View co-host.
Others felt the same way. "Why can Khloe Kardashian get her hair dyed in quarantine then?? Cause I’m about to up and walk to Calabasas to see her stylist," one person tweeted.
However, a source tells PEOPLE that Kardashian's hair switch-up wasn't new.
“The photo was taken a while ago,” the insider says.
Kardashian's longtime colorist Tracey Cunningham, who took her from platinum to bronde, also confirmed that the Good American designer's color change is a throwback.
"It has faded a bit cause we did it awhile ago and I love it!" Cunningham wrote on Instagram alongside a breakdown of Kardashian's exact Redken color formula.
Kardashian showed off her darker hue with a series of super glam Instagram photos which she captioned, "Location: under bitches skiiiinnnnn 💋."
“Baddie,” he wrote underneath the image, alongside a red heart emoji. “P.S. I’m all for the caption.”
Kardashian's momager Kris Jenner also raved over the new look writing, "My GORGEOUS Girl!!!!!!! Wow!!!!!"
Two weeks ago, Kardashian made an appearance on her sister Kourtney Kardashian's Poosh Wellness Wednesday YouTube live discussion, where they opened up about what their haircare routine has been like while they've been staying home.
"My thing is normally the beginning of the week is when I wash and blow dry my hair — but today I haven’t done anything so I’ll probably do it tomorrow! That’s why my hair’s slicked back, it’s all greasy and gross," Khloé said while sporting a low pony, with visibly darker roots.
She called herself "a dry shampoo person" and finds that by Wednesday or Thursday she will begin wearing her hair in a low bun or low pony before washing it again. "You just work with it," she said.
