Whether her hair is long or short, Khloé Kardashian‘s textured waves always look amazing. So when her hairstylist Andrew Fitzsimons popped into the office, we had to have him spill his secrets for scoring her signature style in the How It’s Done video above. And according to the pro, you’ve most likely been waving your hair wrong all along.

First, Fitzsimons preps a section of hair with Alterna hair spray, and inserts a 1” GHD Curve curling iron near the root. He waves the top half of the section, but doesn’t continue twisting after one turn like you’ve most likely been doing since the moment you picked up a curling iron. Instead, he unclips the iron, reverses it, and curls the bottom half of the section in the opposite direction, a technique that he explains creates a more “natural” look than a standard continuous curl.

The pro continues with this technique throughout the entire head, switching directions on each strand as he goes. He saves the front section of hair for last, which he curls before wrapping it into a pin curl and letting it cool. Then, he unravels the piece and teases the roots to add Khloé-esque volume.

Next, Fitzsimons sprays texturizing spray all over to add extra volume, and finishes by applying oil into the strands in a massaging motion, which adds shine and extra texture.
