Kerry Washington Personally Calls (and Shocks!) a Fan to Let Her Know About Neutrogena's More Diverse Foundation Shades
The actress personally delivered Neutrogena's latest news to one lucky woman
Kerry Washington has been the face of Neutrogena for three years — but until January, the brand’s foundation shades didn’t span wide enough to accommodate darker skin tones like hers. (We know.) So the star took it upon herself to work with the brand to provide dark-skinned women with shades to match their complexion — then surprised one of her biggest fans, Ebony, to share the exciting news.

When Ebony reached out to Neutrogena asking why they didn’t have colors to match their own spokesperson’s skin tone, she certainly wasn’t expecting a response from Washington herself. But when she received a video call from the brand’s “customer service,” the actress was on the other end, with the big news that the brand would now represent a more diverse array of skin shades.
“I wanted to personally deliver the message of our expansion and how proud I am of it, and it really meant a lot to me in particular when people asked about why Neutrogena would bring me on if there wasn’t foundation for women of color,” Washington told Ebony in the video. “I’ve been working really hard on expanding our foundations.”
The star recently spoke to PeopleStyle about the extension of the brand’s foundation range, saying that all women deserve to have an option suitable to them — an issue that she’s always felt strongly about.

“Inclusivity is a value that is core to my beliefs and a passion of mine,” Washington told PEOPLE about the shades. “So to be able to be hands on making this technology available to everybody and also coming up with lip colors that look good on everybody … There’s no reason why women of all ethnicities should be like ‘Oh, I love this technology but there is no color for me.’”
Washington’s favorite part about the new shades? “I’m most happy about my own color because I get to wear it,” she shares.
