A girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do when she’s fed up with her mane. After years of rocking long hair, Kelly Rowland sent fashionistas into shock when she showed up at New York Fashion Week sporting a chic new bob.
“I told my hairstylist Neal Farinah I was bored and it was just that simple,” she told PEOPLE at a Zumba Step class in N.Y.C. on Tuesday. “He said, ‘What do you want to do?’ And I said, ‘I don’t care if you cut it off.’ You can shave me bald!’ I just really need to … do something different and that’s exactly what he did. He started cutting and I said go shorter, and next thing you know I was like ‘This is really cute!'”
Farinah didn’t quite get to the “shave it bald” point, but it wouldn’t matter even if she did. “It’s hair. You grow it back or go buy it,” she says.
Besides, Rowland (who was also celebrating her 33rd birthday at the Zumba class), has more important things to worry about than her hair — like looking great in her wedding dress. “Every woman thinks about that! I just want to feel effortlessly beautiful, but in order to feel that way you have to work hard to feel effortlessly beautiful on your wedding day,” says Rowland.
And while she says she hasn’t given much thought to her wedding planning, she says she is looking forward to a simple ceremony. “I just want it to be me and him and on the ocean,” she says.
