Kelly Ripa Dyes Her Hair Pink, Reveals 'I Might Go Red Next!'

It’s starting to seem as though it would be easier to count how many stars don’t have pastel hair than how many do. The latest celeb to join their ranks? The ever-chic (and frankly, super-surprising!) Kelly Ripa.

The host of Live With Kelly and Michael joined the ranks of fellow current pink-haired stars Kaley Cuoco and Nicole Richie (plus former ones Julianne Hough and Hilary Duff) Tuesday night, debuting the new hue on her Instagram with the caption “?????? for the love of P!NK @ryantrygstadhair you are boss!”

Hairstylist Ryan Trygstad returned the compliment with a similarly fluorescent-glam photo:

Ripa’s hair has run the gamut from brunette to platinum, but her honey-blonde bob has become as much her signature as her outspoken a.m. antics — which makes this super-bright hair makeover (seriously, no wimpy faded pastels here) seem like it came out of nowhere.

“They call me pinkie galore,” Ripa said on Wednesday’s Live! with Kelly and Michael. Her co-host Michael Strahan jokingly introduced himself to her, explaining he didn’t know who he was sitting next to.

The reason for Ripa’s pastel switch-up? She wanted a fresh look for an upcoming trip.

“Every time I go on vacation I dye my hair a different color,” she explained. “It usually washes out and this will wash out. It’s part of my tradition — I like to have fun for a few weeks. I literally sat there with pink hair dye, multiple shades of pink on my hair for hours. I get very bored. I’ve had the same color for six months at least, and that’s a long time for me.”

And the TV star says she’s not done dyeing yet. “I think I might go red next. When we first put it on it looked really red and I was like, ‘I like it!’ I tried a red wig once and I was drunk with power.”

Her husband Mark Consuelos is currently in California, so Ripa had to send a selfie to reveal her new look.

“He said, ‘Babe, keep going. I love it.'”
