And he explains his design influence in a cool new video
As New York Fashion Week begins, there’s a lot of pop star style news to keep up with. Kendall and Kylie Jenner opened a pop-up shop. Kanye West revealed Season 4 of his Yeezy fashion line. And Justin Timberlake has some exciting new updates to his clothing line, William Rast.
The Fall/Winter 2016 collection will be available at a slew of new retailers including Macy’s, Nordstrom, Dillard’s, Belk, Bon-Ton and Bloomingdale’s. And to celebrate the major expansion, Timberlake and his brand co-founder (and longtime BFF) Trace Ayala went back to their roots to Memphis, Tennessee to film a cool behind-the-scenes video explaining the influence their birthplace has on their designs.
In the clip, they explain that to understand the brand you have to understand the historical music scene of Memphis. “Nashville, right down the road is the cornerstone of country music, but Memphis is also the home of the blues and the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll,” Timberlake explains in the video. So as far as the clothing line goes, naturally: “It’s gotta be a little bit country and it’s gotta be a little bit rock ‘n’ roll at the same time.”

And that’s exactly what you can see in the brand’s fall collection, which includes pieces with some country flair, including fringe skirts and patched distressed denim, with a rock vibe through the pairs ripped black skinny jeans and embellished moto jackets.
In addition to his hometown, Timberlake cites Frank Sinatra, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley as his major style influences because they were “guys that were just never really trying to be that, they just were that.”
And because they named the brand after their grandfathers, William Bomar and John Rast, it means even more for the design duo to produce their best work, that stands the test of time. “Everything that we make with this brand is from something that was really honest and true to us.”
You can shop the fall 2016 collection at the new retailers and catch the brand at the Macy’s Fashion Front Row airing September 15 at 8p.m. ET on the E! Network.
