Lifestyle Style Julianne Hough's DWTS Photo Diary: Going Bright, Bold and Beautiful for Week One See what the star wore for week 1 of season 20! By Alex Apatoff Published on March 17, 2015 04:31 PM Share Tweet Pin Email To kick off season 20 of Dancing with the Stars (and her exclusive weekly photo diary for PEOPLE), our favorite multihyphenate (and DWTS judge) Julianne Hough opted to go bold and bright, choosing a plunging, chartreuse gown and glam red lip (plus plenty of sparkle). Read on for all the scoop from the star and her glam squad (stylist Anita Patrickson, makeup artist Spencer Barnes and hairstylist Riawna Capri) — as well as a first-week cameo from Hough’s puppies, Lexi and Harley! Courtesy Julianne Hough Says Capri of their first week back in action, “The most fun part was having everyone back together again! And walking into a brand-new trailer — a.k.a. ‘our Monday home’ — was such a great surprise! We are all such a great collaborative team, it’s nice to have that energy to start the week.” The star has chosen bold, bright yellows for the show before (memorably, this Jenny Packham gown and the lace Naeem Khan she wore to last season’s finale), and Patrickson in the past has said she loves the color for her client because “Without sounding corny (too late!) she truly is a ray of sunshine.” RELATED PHOTOS: See even more star style (and vote on your favorites) now! This time Patrickson picked the “fun, feminine and bold” gown because “Julianne loved it the minute she put it on! The color is so tough to pull off, but Jules just shone.” After figuring out how to keep the look from being “too princess-y,” she collaborated with Barnes and Capri for the beauty look. “We all kinda came together for this one,” she says. “The bright chartreuse of the dress brought in the fun pop of color on the lip, and the gorgeous Henri Sillam drop earrings gave us some hair inspiration.” Courtesy Julianne Hough Capri said the moment the dress was on, the hair was decided. “We originally were going to have her hair down, but as soon as she put the dress on to make sure it fit, we all agreed it looked best up!” she says. “We’ve been doing DWTS for a while now, and we always want to do something new and different. This time I curled her hair in a different texture that I never curled it before, and Julianne and I loved it. It might be our new favorite wave!” Barnes also had a blast reuniting with Team Hough. “Starting a new season with Julianne is like celebrating the first day of spring after a cold winter. Our sunshine girl is back!” he says. Once he saw the “Cinderella fabulous” dress Patrickson picked out, he reached for Kevin Aucoin’s The Matte lip color in “Forever” for a bright, spring-y finish, and dusted her skin with three bronzers by the brand (The Celestial Bronzing Veil in “Tropical Nights,” The Sculpting Powder and Starlight The Celestial Powder) to sculpt her face. “When you wear a bright lip color paired with bronzed skin, don’t feel like you have to wear blush as if it’s a hard and fast rule,” he advises. “Look for balance and the finished look will feel more clean and effortless.” Are you psyched to see Hough back on camera?
