Julianne Hough Loves Going Makeup-Free

Back-to-blonde beauty Julianne Hough made a name for herself tearing up the Dancing with the Stars dancefloor in high-drama looks, but when the two-time winner is off duty she’s happy to leave the stage makeup behind. “I used to compete in that world where it’s like heavy, heavy, heavy makeup that doesn’t even look blended in it’s just so thick and so tan–that’s the way I grew up,” the Proactiv face told PEOPLE at an event for the brand in New York last week. “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve actually worn less makeup. I’ve been trying to be a lot less va-va-voom.” And feeling comfortable in her skin, she’s found, is a reflection of how she feels inside. “When I feel my best I’ll wear no makeup whatsoever and feel fantastic,” she says. Julianne is bringing her fresh-faced philosophy to the big screen in her upcoming acting role. “You’ll see in Footloose, I don’t have any makeup on basically,” she says. “I have [on] mascara–just a little bit–and concealer, and this little bit of creamy highlighter on my cheeks, and that’s it!” – Hana Choi; reporting by Katherine Kluznik Rentmeester
