Jill (Duggar) Dillard may be shying away from her family’s traditional conservative values.

The Counting On star and mom to Israel, 2, and Samuel, 4 months, shared an adorable selfie with her sons on Instagram, and her social media followers immediately noticed a small difference to the star’s appearance: a nose piercing!

Fans of the devout Christian Duggar family quickly called out Dillard’s apparent rebellion from her family’s faith on Twitter, Instagram and Reddit — with some commenters giving the star tons of support and others still in complete shock.

“I’m shocked she got her nose pierced considering how conservative they are!” one Instagram user commented on her photo. Another gave her support saying: “Awesome nose piercing love it I got mine done in May. A Mother’s Day present to myself.”

Other fans weren’t quite as convinced Dillard’s piercing is real, arguing that it could just a blemish or photo illusion.

On a Reddit thread, fans also dug up a recent image of the star posing with her new stud and wearing knee-revealing pants, as opposed to the lengthy dresses she would wear to stay in line with the family’s dress code. But many appear to be supportive of Dillard embracing a more secular lifestyle.

Jill and her husband Derick Dillard recently moved back to the United States after spending over two years in Central America, where the couple ministered and worked alongside locals.

Recently, Derick came under fire for criticizing fellow TLC star and transgender activist Jazz Jennings in a tweet. “What an oxymoron … a ‘reality’ show which follows a non-reality,” he tweeted in August in response to a promotional tweet from the network about Jennings’ series, I Am Jazz. “Transgender’ is a myth,” he added. “Gender is not fluid; it’s ordained by God.”

After social media outrage following Derick’s comment, Jennings made her own statement on the issue. “Every day I experience cyber-bullying, but I keep sharing my story. Today was no different,” the TLC star wrote.

TLC issued the following statement to PEOPLE regarding Dillard’s tweets: “Derick Dillard’s personal statement does not represent the views of TLC.”
