WATCH: How to Create Jessica Alba's Navy Smoky Eye
You're going to want to bookmark this for all your holiday parties
With holiday party season quickly approaching, it’s just about time to whip out the shimmery dresses, high heels and faux lashes. But this year, we’re straying away from our usual red lips and black smoky eyes to try new, ultra-glam looks — like the cool navy cat eye Jessica Alba chose for this year’s Billboard Music Awards. So we tapped Alba’s pro, Avon celebrity makeup artist Lauren Andersen to show us a how to create the smoky blue look in the “How It’s Done” video above.
To set the base, Andersen uses a damp eye shadow brush to apply a bold blue shadow (she’s using Avon’s For The Love of Makeup Artist Palette) all over the eyelid, spanning from the lash line to the crease. Next, she blends the shadow outwards with a clean brush, creating a slightly winged shape, before blending the shadow up past the crease.
In order to define the wing, Andersen adds layer of a darker blue shade at the outer corners, making sure to create a pointed shape. She then extends the same blue down along the bottom lash line, all the way in to the inner corners.
But it’s not intense enough yet: Andersen then lines the top and bottom waterlines with navy eyeliner, and then deepens the outer corners yet again with a navy shadow to get the perfect mix of blues for this look.
To finish the look, she adds a few coats of Avon’s True Color Wide Awake mascara, a nude lip, and a swipe of peach blush on the apples of her cheeks.
