We usually get excited when Jennifer Aniston switches up her hair game. But the actress has been opting for updos so often recently that we’re actually starting to pine for her signature, straight down style. (Yes, really.) Let’s review.

On Wednesday night, Aniston hit the carpet sporting a formal pony (with face-framing wisps and a lot of volume) at the L.A. premiere of Cake. She probably selected the pulled-back style to show off the cute neckline and open back on her mini. (See the look from all angles above.)
Aniston also surprised us on the Golden Globes red carpet, wearing a pulled-back bun. According to her mane man Chris McMillan, the look was a spontaneous decision.
“Jen was deciding between two dresses. If she wore one dress, her hair would have been down, but she ended up choosing the dress that would look best with her hair up,” he shared. “Originally, we were going to do a ponytail, but during make up, we put her hair in a bun and we both decided it looked great!”
In November, the 45-year-old star opted for a low pony (at the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences’ Governors Awards) with some retro-inspired volume — a hairstyle that was completely out of her beauty wheelhouse.
McMillan told PEOPLE that he was dedicated to convincing his close pal (and fellow Living Proof ambassador) to mix things up a bit.
“It’s still within her range, but we’ve been switching things up. She’s not showing up with the same hairdo,” he said. “We’ve been talking long, piece-y Alexa Chung-type bangs! I might get her in a weak moment. She’ll kill me, but it’s OK!”
