Lifestyle Style Jennifer Aniston: I Gave Myself a Tanning Intervention The actress opens up about her beauty secrets -- including her history of tanning! By Sarah Kinonen Published on June 10, 2015 01:00 PM Share Tweet Pin Email Trending Videos For someone who’s constantly in the spotlight, having great skin (and equally amazing hair) is a must for Jennifer Aniston. Which is probably why she’s the brand ambassador for Aveeno and the co-owner her own haircare line, Living Proof. So when the actress spilled all of her beauty secrets (like how she maintains her fresh-faced glow, why she’s all about SPF these days and the reason she’s giving up on tanning) in a recent interview with PEOPLE, we took detailed notes. And yes, we’re sharing the wealth. Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic The 46-year-old star may have a glam squad (which included her BFF and longtime hairstylist Chris McMillan), to prep her for the red carpet, but when she’s not busy getting camera-ready, Aniston keeps her makeup routine simple. “I’m less attached to [makeup] now,” she tells PEOPLE. “And Justin [Theroux] loves me without.” But her fiancé also loves her date night beauty looks. “He likes it when I smoke up my eyes!” With or without makeup, the Cake actress maintains her radiant complexion by staying hydrated throughout the day. “I drink water endlessly. Like five [bottles] a day,” she says. “Now it’s just such habit. There are so many lazy water drinkers!” But most importantly, Aniston has cut down on her time in the sun — and now is all about doubling up on sunscreen, especially from Aveeno. “I gave myself a sun-tanning intervention a few years ago, where I was basically saying, ‘Let’s just quit while we’re ahead,'” she tells PEOPLE. “I was not great as a kid with sunscreen. That’s one of my big regrets. Now I use Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 15.” RELATED PHOTOS: Celeb hair Makeovers: Better Before or After? Looking great and feeling good at her age (and at any age) is important to Aniston — and to society, she says. “We’re going to feel good about ourselves if we see another woman who is 50 and rocking it,” she shares. “If society is telling you to sit it out after 40, you diminish yourself. Believe what you feel. If you feel crappy about yourself, it’s going to show.” Which is why she’s excited about Aveeno’s newest campaign, Unscripted Beauty, which asks women to share unscripted moments they find most beautiful with others. For Aniston, that moment occurred while she filming her latest film, Cake, last year. “When I was filming Cake, I didn’t wear any makeup,” she says. “I was taken aback by how nervous I got about walking outside and knowing that there was probably going to be a whole group of photographers.” She adds: “But then I just let go and I didn’t care. And over the next five weeks of shooting that, I really loved it. I wasn’t attached [to makeup]. If anything, putting on makeup felt so weird.” For more on Jennifer Aniston’s beauty routine, pick up the June 22 issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands June 10. Do you drink as much water as Aniston?
