Dancing with the Stars' Jenna Johnson Just Said 'Yes' to the First Wedding Dress She Tried On
The dancing pro opens up to PEOPLE about her picture-perfect wedding day look
Jenna Johnson just said yes to the dress!
The Dancing with the Stars pro shared an Instagram photo of herself at the renowned N.Y.C. bridal boutique, Kleinfeld Bridal, announcing that she finally found her wedding dress for her upcoming nuptials to fellow DTWS pro, Val Chmerkovskiy.
Johnson filmed the magical moment for the TLC hit, Say Yes to the Dress, but the pro dancer also opened up to PEOPLE with all the scoop about her look.
“Before even looking for my dress, I knew I wanted something timeless and classic. I wanted something that I felt confident and beautiful in. I didn’t want to look like a princess — I wanted to look like a queen!” Johnson told PEOPLE exclusively.
She added, “I am so blessed to be able to have gorgeous dresses made for me every week on DWTS. So I also wanted to be certain that I didn’t get anything that felt like a costume or ballroom dress.”
Before heading to Kleinfeld’s for her appointment, Johnson made sure to do her homework. “I was so looking forward to it, so I went onto their website to have an idea of what they had and what I knew I wanted to try on,” she said.
Though she prepped with plenty of research, her appointment still ended up being a “couple of hours” long, but filled with fun as Johnson brought alone her mom Tammy, close family friend Stacy, future mother-in-law Larissa and future sister-in-law Peta Murgatroyd. She ended up trying on a total of four gowns during the appointment, but ultimately settled on the first one she put on.

“Ironically enough, the first dress I tried on was the one. I had picked it out while looking around and I just knew it was unique and something I would love to wear,” she told us.
So what’s next for Johnson? Continuing to move forward planning with “one of the biggest days of my life,” which has been a challenge as she juggles her DWTS gig. “It’s been a little difficult being on the DWTS tour trying to plan a wedding, but I have definitely increased my multitasking skills!” Johnson said.
But she says things are steadily moving along. “I feel like things are finally starting to fall into place. My dress was a big box I wanted to check off, so now that I have it I can breathe and enjoy the rest of our planning,” the star said. “Now I’m just excited and ready for the big day.”
Johnson added, “It’s been so enjoyable designing and planning our wedding. Is been a fun little adventure together. Honestly, as long as Val’s by my side, I will be the happiest girl in the world.”
Johnson and Chmerkovskiy began dating off-and-on in 2015, went public with their love in 2017 and got engaged last June during a romantic trip to Venice, Italy.
Chmerkovskiy popped the question with a Jacob & Co. rectangular cushion-cut diamond with a diamond halo and a pavé diamond band that took him a month to co-design with the jeweler.
The day after Thanksgiving, the couple shot their official engagement portraits in snowy Utah.
“I really wanted to take them in Utah because it’s tradition for my family,” Johnson told PEOPLE. “All of my siblings have taken their engagements there and the scenery is just truly breathtaking. I get emotional every time I look at these pictures. It captures my home and my love all in one.”
While the date of the wedding is still to be announced, Johnson is enjoying the planning process. “Wedding planning is very exciting,” Johnson told PEOPLE. “It’s crazy how much has to go into one day, but we just want it to be a beautiful celebration for us and our families to enjoy.”
