How to recreate Jamie Chung's gorgeous hair necklace

Jamie Chung’s Big Hero 6 premiere look — from her starry Diane von Furstenberg gown to her tousled half-up tresses — was out-of-this-world (yes, pun intended). Our favorite part? The back view of her epic strands, which we were even more intrigued by when we learned that it was adorned with a “last minute DIY chain”!

Her stylist, Daniel Marrone, told PEOPLE that her look was intended to channel a romantic Disney vibe — with an edge. “We wanted something princess-like, but different. Not your average braid. We talked it over and decided to take a risk and add in a gold chain.”

Morrone explained that Chung actually went to a craft store to buy the chain. They initially intended on hanging little stars off of it, but opted instead to hang tiny rhinestones as not to overwhelm the stellar print on her dress.

“Jamie actually added the little diamonds to the chain while I began prepping and styling her hair,” Marrone shared.

To get her look, he blow-dried her hair with a round brush. Then, he misted it with Bumble and Bumble’s Thickening Hairspray, wrapped sections into little “twisty buns” and dried it with a diffuser-attachment. “This gives it an undone, sexy texture which Jamie and I both love,” Marrone explains. Once her waves were perfected, he pulled the top sections back, braided them and secured them with cute gold clips. Next he created “holes” in the braids with his fingers to weave the chains through, pinning the chain in as he wove so it would stay exactly in place.

Chung must have loved the look, because she’s already had Marrone create another half-up embellished style.
