Leave it to to kick off 2015 in a lip shade so au courant it’s not even available yet! Chanel makeup artist Kate Lee chose the brand’s Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour in “Etienne,” a deep rose/berry blend that’ll hit shelves this March. “Annie and I used the color last year and she really loved it, so we chose it as the main feature of her all-white look,” she reveals. The good news is the shade will be worth the wait. “The formula works equally as well as a stain as it does a rich full lip,” says Lee. If you can’t hold out for this color, try this bold berry from Chanel’s Rouge Allure line.

ROSAMUND PIKE'S MATTE MAUVE
Pairing a vivid lip with a smoky eye might sound super risqué, but not if you’re Rosamund, who easily pulls off both. The secret? Avoiding harsh lines, says her makeup artist Mélanie Inglessis. “Define your lips with the same color pencil as the lipstick and gently fill the inside too. Then apply the color evenly on the lip but stay away from the edges, so it doesn’t bleed,” she says. “To finish off the edges, pout, then pat your lipstick with your ring finger to the edge of your mouth for a softer look.” On the eyes, use a shimmery cream formula in a non-harsh shade (like her gray), and blend, blend, blend.

KEIRA KNIGHTLEY'S DEEP PINK POP
“I wanted a strong lip colour to bring out the subtle pink tone in dress,” says Chanel makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua, who offered up a sneak peek of the star’s The Imitation Game N.Y.C premiere look on Instagram. “This striking fuchsia pink gives an edgy punk rock feel as an alternative to red. But because it’s matte, hydrate your lips first with a quality conditioner that does not break up the makeup. Petroleum jelly or some oily lip glosses are too greasy and will break down the color.”

GUGU MBATHA-RAW'S RICH FUCHSIA

A blue-ish plum “that’s not too vibrant, so it feels sophisticated and glamorous.” And because matte shades can cause dry patches, he recommends gently exfoliating lips first.
