Hilary Duff’s 6 Secrets to Dressing for Her Petite Frame
WEAR ONE HUE FROM HEAD TO TOE
"I think it's really fun to do all one color. When you try it, you're shocked to see that it all works together. My whole thing is balance. When I wore this white suit, the blazer was oversize, and [the bustier] was fitted underneath, so it wasn't like, 'Hello, boobs!' everywhere."
TRY A WIDE-LEG TROUSER
"I'm 5'2" and everything has to be altered or hemmed, so I'm always looking for new things to get [me] out of my skinny jeans. I'm really into the wide-leg trend, as long as the pants are high-waisted so I have some kind of shape. And I have to wear a chunky big heel, that's my trick.
HAVE FUN WITH OUTERWEAR
"I'm always hopping on a plane, and I'm always cold, so jackets are a comfort thing for me. I have a ton of leather jackets. I feel like they make you look cool without trying. Same with a satin bomber. I just bought an amazing Veronica Beard coat [shown]. It has military buttons, and I can't wait to wear it all the time."
DOWNSIZE YOUR BAG
"I'm not into giant bags. I think I got over big ones when I was carrying around a diaper bag all the time. Now I'm more into a comfy cross-body bag—omigod, I'm such a mom! I just don't carry that much stuff around anymore. I even like a clutch for daytime. It doesn't need to be sparkly, but it looks cute with a pair of jeans and a blazer."
CHANGE UP YOUR SIGNATURE LOOK
"I just decided that I want to start wearing more dresses. I've been doing skinny jeans and a sweater for a really long time, and it was time to switch it up. Dresses are so comfortable, and they're easy to throw on. Plus they can be dressed down with flats or sandals."
ROCK STATEMENT EARRINGS
"I love big earrings. If I want to wear my hair in a low bun or back because I don't have time to do it, I put on earrings, and I feel a little more put together. And I'm very much a hoop girl. All my friends are like, 'Here comes Hilary in her hoops!' It's just the bigger, the better."
