Now on to all those breakout stars of last night we clearly couldn’t stop talking about. Before the festivities even kicked off stars were already teasing us with sneak peaks of what they were going to wear (including Maria Sharapova’s getting-ready diary exclusively for People), their complicated, android-themed beauty looks for the evening, and a whole slew of TBTs from Kim K to Katy Perry that kept us guessing right up until the big reveal.

Sadly, Met Gala favorite Diane Kruger did not make an appearance last night, but Beyoncé sure did, wowing in a custom Givenchy latex gown. Cindy Crawford kicked off the evening, unveiling her final look for the evening on Instagram and giving us all a preview of one of the biggest sartorial trends of the evening, Balmain automaton chic, a look Kim Kardashian took to the next level with her “Blingy Sexy Robot” gown. Diane von Furstenberg officially stole Sarah Jessica Parker’s title for craziest headpiece of the evening, although in a surprising turn of events SJP went full-on Hamilton, bucking the futuristic theme altogether.

Speaking of tech-meets-fashion, co-chair for the evening Taylor Swift sizzled in a skin-baring fembot gladiator look, while her date Selena Gomez kept things super casual in another Louis Vuitton look. While some stars took this year’s theme super seriously, like Zayn Malik with his metal-covered arms, Claire Danes’ glow-in-the-dark gown or Nick Jonas and his steampunk watch brooch, other celebs like Saoirse Ronan went totally retro with a 1960s inspired ponytail. But a number of celebs actually managed to incorporate their vision of the technological future into their beauty looks, from Essie debuting their “Gel Couture” polish on the red carpet to stars totally bleaching off their eyebrows.

There were also a crazy amount of siblings in attendance last evening, from the Olsen sisters who stuck to their classic Gala aesthetic, to Kendall Jenner in a totally sheer cutout gown and her sister Kylie who made her Met Gala debut in a Balmain dress that made her bleed. And even those who didn’t have siblings as their dates got in on the action, with Lena Dunham, Jenni Konner, and Jenna Lyons arriving in full matching triplet tuxedos.

And then of course there were those looks we just straight up could not stop staring at, including Katy Perry’s take on Tamagotchi couture, Madonna’s cheeky Givenchy creation, Jennifer Hudson’s red carpet comeback on an H&M cloud, Zoe Saldana’s mile-long train, La La Anthony’s gravity defying gown, and Lady Gaga’s return to form in her pantsless bodysuit and sky-high platforms. But Kate Upton totally stole the show, taking the occasion to officially announce her engagement to Justin Verlander and debut her massive engagement ring.

And after the grand dinner it was on to the after parties where celebs swapped out their ornate gowns for more casual looks, or in Karlie Kloss’s case simply chopping off the bottom of her dress to make it dance floor-ready. Consider how exhausted we are from just talking about it, we can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like to actually live through a single Met Gala evening.
