Jennifer Aniston‘s hair has been “there for us” since the ’90s. We’ve begged our hairstylists for “The Rachel”, we’ve recreated her ponytail, and we’ve slaved over our blow dryers and round brushes to try to achieve blowouts as smooth as hers. So to celebrate her 47th birthday, let’s celebrate with five “mane” things she’s said about her famous styles.

1. She hated “The Rachel”
Remember her iconic Friends haircut that essentially defined the ’90s? Well, she wasn’t fond of it. She told Allure in 2011, “Let’s say there have been moments I’d rather not relive, like that whole Rachel thing … How do I say this? I think it was the ugliest haircut I’ve ever seen. What I really want to know is, how did that thing have legs?”

2. Her best ponytails are courtesy of her BFF hairstylist, Chris McMillan
Aniston is no stranger to the perfect ponytail — and it’s all thanks to McMillan, who has mastered the look (watch him teach us how in the video below). “There’s no ponytail that doesn’t move, every ponytail should move,” she told PEOPLE. “I just put it up and go. If it looks right, that’s Chris.”

3. She’ll never cut a pixie
Aniston described McMillan to Fashionista as “Edward Scissorhands”, and added that she has to reign him in when it comes to her cuts. “He just wants to just cut it all off, kind of like a pixie, which I will never do. And he always likes to give it a good two inches every year, just a healthy cut. He’s also suggested going back to dark brown.”

4. She doesn’t look fondly on her younger hair years…
She knows her cult of hair worship exists, but it makes her laugh, she told ABC News in 2014, “I always have such a chuckle when I hear people saying I have great hair because as a kid it was always a challenge.”

5. …Because they involved mullets
“I’d only had mullets,” she told PEOPLE of her childhood days. “Or those haircuts when you were a kid and you’d get those crazy, like, long at the front and shaved at the back.” She adds, “Oh, I just learned so many lessons from my youth of what not to do.”
