Gwyneth Paltrow’s glam squad isn’t the the only crew whose input she relies on when putting together a red carpet look. The 43-year-old mom of two also takes cues from another power-duo: 11-year-old daughter Apple and 9-year-old son Moses, she tells PeopleStyle.

“I get ready in my kitchen, and they’re always around,” Paltrow says. “They don’t like it when I don’t look like myself.”

Moses is the most outspoken about the actress’s fashion choices. “He doesn’t want any possible chance that there will be boob, nipple or anything see-through, too short or too low-cut. He’s like, ‘Mom, that’s too flashy,’” the star shares.

Meanwhile daughter Apple is “very into makeup.” In fact, Paltrow admits the pre-teen teaches her a thing or two when it comes to tricks of the makeup trade. “The other day she said, ‘I put some BB cream on,’ and I’m like, ‘what is BB cream?’ Or she will say, ‘This is for contouring,’ and I’m like, ‘How do you know?’ She studies it all the time.”

Paltrow says Apple frequents YouTube for tutorials—and enlists the family to help her perfect her craft. “She did this crazy zombie makeup on her brother for Halloween. She’s really good at it.”

Meanwhile, mom has her own area of expertise. On March 1, just weeks after releasing a makeup line created in collaboration with Juice Beauty, the brand is launching goop Skincare. The 6-product collection ranging from $80 to $140 (and for which Paltrow’s company also partnered with Juice Beauty) was created using certified organic ingredients. “Being in this business for a long time you try a lot of different creams. And they were all incredibly rich and felt beautiful, but when I had children and I started learning about chemicals and preservatives, and how much we absorb into your system, I just thought, why aren’t women being protected better?” says Paltrow, who shares her passion for clean living on her goop site. “Women deserve to have effective, beautifully made products that are nontoxic, so it was my dream, through my company, to create what I was looking for.”

Paltrow personally swears by the Exfoliating Instant Facial and the Replenishing Night Cream, calling a combo of the two a “game changer” for her skin. And her facialist agrees. “She was like, ‘oh my God your skin! What do you use?’ And I was like, “I use my own stuff!’”
