The pop powerhouse decided to forego the ceremony at L.A.’s Staples Center — but she still modeled what would have been her head-to-toe red carpet look. As the award ceremony kicked off, Grande posted multiple photos of herself sprawled on the floor completely dolled up in the Zac Posen gown and Borgioni and Butani jewels she was planning to wear to this year’s Grammys. “when @zacposen makes u a custom gown it doesn’t matter if you’re singing or not 🌫 …. thank u 🖤,” the star wrote, thanking designer Zac Posen for the Cinderella-like strapless ballgown he made for the star’s Grammys appearance. The team at Zac Posen told PEOPLE her gown took a month to make. “Zac designed a ice blue duchess satin custom gown for Ariana,” a rep for the brand tells PEOPLE. “This was a month long collaboration with her and her stylist, Law Roach. He couldn’t be more proud and happier for Ariana and her win tonight.” Grande wore what looks to be her full glam, including her signature high ponytail, Borgioni diamond stud earrings and a custom diamond Butani choker worth more than $380,000 with the romantic custom gown. The star quickly changed into sweatpants as she watched the show alongside her manager Scooter Braun. The duo celebrated her win together. Although she skipped out on the awards ceremony, Grande won her first-ever Grammy for her fourth studio album, Sweetener, for best pop vocal album at the 2019 Grammy Awards on Sunday night. She beat out Camila Cabello, Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes, Pink and Taylor Swift. “i know i’m not there tonight (trust, i tried and still truly wished it had worked out tbh) and i know i said i try not to put too much weight into these things …. but f—,” she tweeted about the honor. “This is wild and beautiful. thank you so much.” Despite being nominated for two Grammys this year — one for best pop vocal performance for “God Is a Woman” and another for best pop vocal album for Sweetener — Grande decided to skip the award show following an argument with producers over her proposed performance, which had already been advertised on billboards promoting the show. Eventually, both parties reached a compromise that included “7 Rings” as part of a medley, and that Grande could pick whichever second song she wanted. But she still rejected the offer, the outlet reported. Be sure to check out PEOPLE’s full Grammys coverage to get the latest news on music’s biggest night. Grande clapped back at producers via Twitter Thursday afternoon. “i offered 3 different songs. it’s about collaboration. it’s about feeling supported. it’s about art and honesty. not politics. not doing favors or playing games. it’s just a game y’all.. and i’m sorry but that’s not what music is to me,” she wrote. Ariana Grande Wins Best Pop Vocal Album After Skipping 2019 Grammys: ‘This Is Wild and Beautiful’ Grande concluded her diatribe by sharing her gratitude for the Recording Academy’s recognition: She’s up for best pop vocal album for her acclaimed LP Sweetener, as well as best pop solo performance for “God Is a Woman.” Ariana Grande Breaks Silence About Skipping the Grammys as She Slams Producers: I Felt ‘Stifled’ “hope that helps everyone understand my decision. i am still grateful for the acknowledgment this year,” she added, before sharing a teaser promoting her new album thank u, next, which drops at midnight. The Recording Academy did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. The pop star’s next album, Thank U, Next, was released on Friday, just two days before the Grammys — and a little more than five months after Sweetener debuted. In January, Grande released the song list for Thank U, Next, and it appears to be heavily inspired by her tumultuous year, which included the death of ex-boyfriend Mac Miller and her whirlwind romance and split from comedian Pete Davidson.
