Lorde flaunts a new lip hue on the Golden Globes red carpet
If you expected to see Lorde in her signature purple lip, you were in for a surprise tonight: The star, whose song Yellow Flicker Beat from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is nominated for best original song, ditched the ’90s-inspired makeup for a more “classic” look.
“The Golden Globes is such a glamorous event so it was key to look chic but also stick to Lorde’s edgy style,” explains Amber D., makeup artist for Kat Von D beauty, who dolled Lorde up for the red carpet.
To take her usual look up a notch, they opted for a metallic bronze liner (instead of the black they often use) and a matte orange-red lip (to replace her signature deep plum). According to the celebrity makeup pro, texture is key to keeping things “fresh and youthful.”

To get her flawless look, Amber D. massaged a blend of moisturizer and primer onto the singer’s bare face before applying a very thin layer of foundation, blush and highlighter to illuminate her face. Next she dusted on light “washes” of shadow from the Kat Von D Monarch Eyeshadow Palette. Lorde’s lids were topped with ultra-fine liner, a few individual faux lashes and then a coat of mascara. The finishing touch was that scarlet pout! Her lips were prepped with balm before Amber D. swept on the gorgeous ruby hue (Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Countess.
