She’s said she wants to be “the pinup of the future,” and Katy Perry is well on her way in the latest issue of Parade magazine.

Posing for the publication’s cover in lots of glittery red, white and blue, Perry takes a page from pinups of the past, and even goes a step further, modeling with 10 active Navy servicemen. “Even though I’m not her demo, I’m a big fan of Katy Perry,” Chief Mass Communication Specialist Anthony Briggs Jr. tells the mag. “I actually gave the phone to Katy and she talked to my daughter.”

“Katy personally introduced herself to us and shook all of our hands,” adds Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handler) 1st Class Arnel Angeles. “She actually took time out for us and hung out.”

When she wasn’t talking to the servicemen, Perry was talking about her new film, Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D, and, of course, her style.”I like the darker look right now,” she admitted. “It seems like I’ve been the candy queen for a long time, and as much as I loved creating that look, I know that if I don’t evolve people might get bored.”
