Gigi Hadid’s Most Eye-Catching Makeup Moments, Ever
All About Gigi Hadid’s Most Glamorous Red Carpet Moments
It’s only been a few years since Gigi Hadid first took the fashion world by storm, and yet we’ve already lost count of the model’s campaigns and collaborations. But one thing we know for sure: every time Maybelline New York spokeswoman steps on a red carpet, her beauty look is on point. "Gigi loves all aspects of art and beauty and definitely has fun becoming a character through the makeup," says her pro Erin Parsons. Together, the duo have created everything from ombré lips to contoured eye effects, and cemented Hadid’s spot as a trend-setter in the process. To celebrate Parsons’ appointment as Maybelline’s Global Makeup Ambassador, as well as Hadid’s first-ever makeup collaboration with the brand, the pro talked us through Hadid’s coolest makeup looks on the red carpet — so far — as well as her tricks for recreating them. Says Parsons of their relationship: "It's a dream to work with someone so naturally stunning yet down to earth. And most of all she loves makeup!"
At her 23rd Birthday Party, April 2018
The supermodel took the milestone of her "golden birthday" to heart, rocking a shimmering Versace mini and matching eyeshadow (the shade Gold School), which was given a next-level gleam by the addition of glitter and a sequin pailette in the inner cormer of Hadid's lids, says makeup artist Erin Parsons.
Pro Tip: Clear glitter glue kept Hadid's embellished lids intact all night.

At the Gigi Hadid x Maybelline New York Collection Launch Party, November 2017
In honor of the model’s first makeup line with Maybelline, Hadid and Parsons held — what else! — a masterclass where fans learned all the duo’s beauty secrets. For the event’s red carpet, Hadid rocked a smoky eyeliner look. "First, I used the East Coast Glam Eye Contour palette in Cool to layer the shadows starting at the crease and working upward. Next I added the black gel pencil eyeliner from the collection at the outer corners of the eyes and smoked it outward with a small pencil brush. Finally, I topped her lid, brow bone and inner corners with shimmer shades from her West Coast Glow Eye Shadow Palette in Cool. Her lipliner is Taura and her lipstick is McCall."
Pro Tip: Even a nude lip can have a hint of dimension. The trick is to apply a lip liner that is slightly darker than your lipstick.

At the CFDA Awards, June 2017
"Sometimes the best way to make up your client is to let their natural beauty lead the way,” says Parsons. "Here the brows are groomed, the lips lined and toned beige. Nothing overwhelms her natural beauty. The skin comes through with radiance and life. She just looks simply beautiful!”
Pro Tip: Add a few fluttery individual lashes at the outer corners of your eyes to heighten the sexy vibe.
At the Met Gala, May 2017
For fashion’s biggest night, which honored Rei Kawakubo for Comme des Garçons, Parsons reveals that she was “fortunate” enough to get a sneak peek of sketches of Hadid’s dress. From those, “we had an idea to lighten her brows to match the nude tone of the dress. This allowed the graphic deconstructed black liner to be the focus of the face. We went further with it than we normally would because the theme of the night allowed for something unique."
Pro Tip: There’s no need to bleach your brows! “Instead of making the change permanent I decided to use concealer and soften the tone of the brow until they nearly disappeared."
At a Tommy x Gigi Collection Event, October 2016
Camaraderie is at the core of the duo’s relationship, Parsons explains. “We trust each other. Sometimes I simply say 'What are we doing today?' and she'll respond (like she did this day) with 'What about silver glitter?’” Parsons continues, "This is why I love working with her: She’s so open to playing with makeup and doesn’t take it too seriously."
Pro Tip: “After adding the silver glitter to the upper eyelids, keep everything else simple — but sculpted."
At the American Music Awards, November 2016
Sometimes other iconic models serve as inspiration for the duo. After Hadid’s fitting, Parsons showed her a few pictures of Lauren Hutton "from the 70's where the skin was bronzed and sculpted.” The pro says this moment marked a shift where "we started to contour and pull out the eye shape using warm toned shadows.” To complete the look, Hadid hand-picked the lip. "She's so good at mixing lip colors and always knows what will create the perfect tint to match the outfit. She's an incredibly talented artist so I know I can rely on her when I'm stuck on a color.”
Pro Tip: Seek out an easy to use palette that makes defining your eyes a breeze, like Hadid’s very own Eye Contour set.

At a Tommy Hilfiger Event, October 2016
“Gigi knows what works on her and what will complement the outfit or event taking place,” says Parsons, who recalls that for this visit to a Tommy Hilfiger store in China, the model’s followers “were serving major looks from head to toe, so we couldn't disappoint!” After Scarlett swept Hadid’s hair into a half-up style, Parsons punctuated the overall look with a matte, coral-red lip. “It started off as a classic red, but Gigi loves an orange hue mixed in so I handed her the palette and she came up with the perfect shade. It's amazing working with her because she knows and loves makeup so she can help me out. We always joke that she's my best assistant!"
Pro Tip: Embrace experimentation! The duo mixed about three different lip colors to nail Hadid’s hue.
At the Launch of her Tommy x Gigi Collection, October 2016
“We create her most iconic looks when we create them together,” explains Parsons of their squad mantra. Here, after hairstylist Bryce Scarlett completed these "cute half-up buns,” Parsons complemented the look with equally playful makeup. "We did a silver eyeliner on top and blue eyeliner on the bottom of the eyes. A full strip of lashes were applied to the top lash line, and a few individual lashes were applied to the bottom outer corners of the eyes. Finally to top off the look I applied three small crystals to the outer corners of the eyes. I had found these in a shop earlier that day she when Gigi mentioned she wanted them — I was ecstatic!”
Pro Tip: To keep the fun look from going over-the-top, Parsons used a similar, subtle peachy hue on the cheeks and lips.
At a Tommy Hilfiger Meet & Greet, September 2016
"I always love when a hairstylist pulls the hair into a high ponytail that causes the eyes, brows and cheekbones to lift upward. Because of this, I wanted to accent her eye shape by using a brown pencil (Glazed Toffee) on her lower lashline. It's a quick and easy way to add definition and drama that doesn’t feel heavy."
Pro Tip: "To keep the entire look fresh we kept the rest of the face soft, adding highlights to the high points of the face and topping the lips with a nude peachy gloss."

When it comes to the creation of Hadid’s red carpet looks, “she often picks the lipstick colors,” reveals Parsons, who custom-made this striking ombré shade by “mixing a unique combination” of colors. Exclaims the pro, “It’s fun to play with makeup!"
Pro Tip: "To give the matte look depth and tone, I applied Raging Rasin (a burgundy tone) all over Gigi’s lips, then I applied Pitch Black along outer corners and Wickedly White to the center of the lips."

At the The Heidi Klum Halloween Party, October 2015
Parsons says the duo’s approach is simple: "Gigi always comes in with an idea — and together we bring the look to life." For this costume party, the model sent her trusted pro a text that read, "I've decided to be Sandy from Grease.” With that iconic movie character in mind, the pro intensified winged black eyeliner with smoky gray eye shadow. “Then, when I went to search for a red lipstick, Gigi said, 'I have my favorite combo,’ and pulled Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lipliner in Red and Color Sensational Lipstick in Are You Red-dy out of her makeup bag,” recalls Parsons, who applied the two to create a "spot-on Sandy!”
Pro Tip: "To make this bold lip look last all night, first sweep concealer over the lips and dust with translucent powder. Next, line and fill the using the lip liner. Then, apply the lipstick with your fingertip, blot with a tissue and repeat."
