An unexpected foot injury may be keeping Serena Williams out of the upcoming U.S. Open, but it’s not just the tennis courts or the chance at victory that she’ll be missing. “When I get injured it’s devastating because I know I won’t be able to wear heels. I’m practically in tears,” the No. One-ranked tennis star laments in the September/October issue of SOBeFiT magazine. Serena, along with older sister Venus, is already known to exhibit some serious fashion flair on the courts, but the world’s top player takes her off-court style very seriously–ranking working on her personal maintenance and shopping over working out. “I’m the complete not-normal athlete, and I often wonder how I got into sports because I hate working out. I hate running. I hate all that stuff. I love doing my nails, reading, going to the movies and wearing high heels–the higher the better actually.” Now that’s a girl after our own hearts! To hear more from Serena, check out, or pick up the current issue of SOBeFiT, on newsstands August 24. –Hana Choi
