Fergie's Style Evolution: From Hand-Me-Downs to Designer Duds

What does a girl with discount clothes and dreams of stardom have in common with a pop superstar with a designer wardrobe and handsome Hollywood husband? Plenty actually, if you’re Fergie. In the December issue of Glamour, the Black Eyed Peas frontwoman admits that though she now appreciates “all the perks that I get in this business,” she was not exposed to glamorous clothing as a kid. “Once in a while, my mother and I would go into this luxurious store, and I’d pick out one outfit that I could buy for myself. This is the girl who got hand-me-downs from the church. So it was the most special treat in the world.” And though these days, the Grammy-award winner is a far cry from secondhand wares, posing for celebrity photographer Martin Schoeller in a Sonia Rykiel dress, Christian Louboutin platforms and Neil Lane jewels, she has never lost that girlhood sense of modesty. While recently cleaning out her closet (a reaction to the TLC show Hoarders), she was wary to get rid of an old sweatshirt admitting, “Part of me was just holding on to things, thinking it was all going to go away.” For more on Fergie’s stance on love, life and admitted addiction (to self esteem!), visit Glamour.com.
