Lindsay Lohan and Taylor Swift aren’t the only celebs known for rocking cascading ringlets — Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu is as famous as any Hollywood starlet for his head of curly hair. And he’s putting his hair care knowledge to good use with a new role as the spokesperson for Head & Shoulders and their campaign to raise awareness for Operation Once in a Life Time, which helps soldiers in need. When it came to fronting a hair care campaign, the choice was easy for the NFL star, he tells PEOPLE. “Being of Samoan decent, in my culture hair is a sign of power and strength so I keep mine long and curly,” he explains. “But with my rigorous training and having to wear my helmet all the time, I usually experience dryness and scalp itch.” His solution? “Believe it or not, my favorite product is Head & Shoulders Smooth & Silky, because it helps to control my frizz.” But beyond endorsing the product itself, Troy enjoys the philanthropic aspect of his new role, telling PEOPLE, “Many people think I’m a hero, but I think the true heroes are the men and women of the armed forces who risk their lives every day. To thank them, Head & Shoulders and I are partnering with Operation Once In a Lifetime, an organization dedicated to helping all service men and women, to grant the wishes of seven soldiers and donate thousands of dollars worth of Head & Shoulders product. I’m excited to give back — but the opportunity is there for everyone to help.” So just how can fans help? “At my Web site,, anyone can donate one dollar on behalf of myself and Head & Shoulders to fulfill the dreams of the seven soldiers.”
