Yes, Jodie Sweetin knows her new sapphire-and-diamond engagement ring bears a resemblance to the one that’s graced the hands of Princess Diana and princess-to-be Kate Middleton. But no, that’s not why her fiancé, Morty Coyle, chose it. “He actually had the ring picked out a few months ago, before the prince’s engagement,” says Sweetin, 29. “But I’ll take comparison to royalty, that’s not too bad!” Coyle — who proposed to Sweetin at her L.A. birthday party Jan. 18 — had his own romantic reasons for selecting this particular sparkler. “Morty said it reminded him of my eyes,” says the actress. “He wanted something unique and something that looked like me. Not too traditional.” The ring, an original from Erwin Hesz jewelry, is made up of a 2.5-carat oval-cut sapphire surrounded by 18 diamonds in a snowflake pattern for a total weight of around 3.75 carats. And though the couple isn’t in a hurry to rush down the aisle, Coyle says that doesn’t mean his beloved shouldn’t have a beautiful token of his affection. “Just because we weren’t married,” he told PEOPLE, “doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve a ring.” — Rennie Dyball
