We may have just seen Miley Cyrus twerk it like she means it at the VMAs on August 25th, but she looks anything but a booty-popper on the October cover of
Harper’s BAZAAR
. The 20-year-old singer is the picture of sophistication in a sleek black Burberry Prorsum dress, classic red nails and bold red lips. (Well, minus the tats.)

But don’t be fooled. Underneath her older, more grown-up look still lies the more attitude-y, swagger-filled Cyrus we’ve come to know. Exhibit A? Her, uh, less-than-humble take on her personal style: “I feel like every girl is trying to have a beauty shot and prove that they’re ‘fashion,'” she tells Harper’s BAZAAR. “But I can be in white leggings and a white sports bra and I’m on a whole other level of sh-t that those girls don’t even get yet because they don’t know how to do it.”

And “those girls” aren’t the only girls Cyrus doesn’t exactly trust when it comes to fashion — she also reveals that she doesn’t even trust stylists. “What if I get to a photo shoot and the stylist just sucks? So I bring my own sh-t.”

And finally, Cyrus busts out some of her trademark attitude when she comments on her epic haircut back in August 2012 — the one where she chopped it and went platinum for the very first time. “It changed everyone’s life more than it changed mine,” she laughs.

So! Conclusion? We’re loving the star’s more sophisticated, grown-up look on the cover of Harper’s BAZAAR, but we also can’t wait to see what “other-level sh-t” she brings to the fashion table in the future.

What do you think of Cyrus’s cover look?
