Lifestyle Style Emmys 2015: Our Best Dressed Stars of the Night Kerry! Gaga! Claire! See which stars nabbed a spot on our list By Brittany Talarico Brittany Talarico Brittany Talarico is PEOPLE's Deputy Style Director, where she oversees the brand's digital Style and Beauty coverage. This includes running lead on the Met Gala, which is among PEOPLE.com's top-trafficked red carpet events every year, interviewing the industry's top influencers (including all the Kardashian-Jenners), and breaking A-list celeb news (a New Jersey shore native, it is no surprise that her favorite interview ever was with Bruce Springsteen). Brittany is a style contributor to People Every Day Podcast and has represented the brand on national TV programs including Good Morning America and The CW's two TV specials on the British Royals. She joined PEOPLE from Cosmopolitan in 2013, where she was an Associate Editor. People Editorial Guidelines Published on September 21, 2015 01:00 PM Share Tweet Pin Email You’ve seen all the glam gowns at the Emmys. And all the stars who took a style risk. Now it’s time for editors to share their top picks of the night. (Yes, some might surprise you!) David Crotty/Patrick McMullan David Crotty/Patrick McMullan Alex Apatoff, Senior Style Editor: Sarah Hyland can often default to cutesy, and Zac Posen can frequently be too overdesigned. So no one was more surprised than I was when she took my best-dressed honors in a sleek, simple and sexy burgundy column gown by the designer. The color was gorgeous on her, the matching Lorraine Schwartz and Ofira ruby accessories complemented the gown like a dream, her beauty look was perfection — and the rear view, with its cool backless neckline detail, sealed the deal on this being my favorite dress of the night. John Shearer/WireImage Brittany Talarico, Style News Editor: If someone were to describe a pink-and-purple sequin gown with silver chain straps to me, I would be a bit confused. But after seeing this Prada creation on Claire Danes, all I saw were floating heart emojis in front of my eyes. The design fits her body perfectly and shows off her toned back and arms. Her sleek bob and matching eye makeup perfectly complemented the look. Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Jackie Fields, Beauty Writer: In a surprisingly simple black Brandon Maxwell dress, the American Horror Story actress channeled Grace Kelly (minus that minute when she sashayed onto the red carpet — then Vogued). This structured, off the shoulder number showed off her gorgeous body (and body art). And while some may have felt the dress was too long, I wouldn’t have traded the floor-grazing hem for a shoe moment. The conclusion: Lady Gaga doesn’t have to wear a meat dress to steal the show. It’s just … so shiny. But really, this is a marquee awards show dress because, despite being sparkly, it’s not the predictable “1940s old-Hollywood glamour” sparkly. It’s a shorter non-gown length, which is refreshing and modern. Also, it looks as amazing in motion (hello, that capelet back?) as it does in a fierce red carpet pose. But probably the best thing about this piece is that it’s not what it looks like — Kerry said the chainmail mesh isn’t heavy, but rather, totally breezy. Jason Merritt/Getty Lindy Segal, Style Social Media Editor: As much as I love a good red carpet risk, there’s something to be said for a classic dress that’s just plain pretty. Emma’s pale pink Jenny Packham dress and Martin Katz jewelry are a little bit Jean Harlow, a little bit Britney Spears in the “Lucky” music video, and all gorgeous. The Red Carpet’s Biggest Risk Takers at the 2015 Emmys Steve Granitz/WireImage Sarah Kinonen, Style & Beauty Editorial Assistant: I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen Amanda Peet in a dress I’ve gone gaga over, but tonight, I’m making an exception. There’s something sophisticated and still modern about her textured black Michael Kors Collection gown — from the plunging neckline to the abs-baring cutout, it’s definitely a design I’m hoping to see other stars sport on red carpets throughout the season. Frazer Harrison/Getty Isabella Biedenharn, Editorial Assistant: The Parks and Recreation stunner sure didn’t look like her grumpy character April in this ’70s-esque Alexandre Vauthier gown, with a plunging neckline, dramatic leg slit and glittering dots. The sharp triangles on the dress complement her asymmetrical bob perfectly; she looks like a perfect combination of the past and the future. What do you think of our Best Dressed list? Agree?
