“She had gone shopping and picked it. I spoke to her sister and she told me and I went and got it,” Farber told PEOPLE backstage after the proposal.
Slater describes the ring, which is from Matthew’s Jewelry Store on Ventura Blvd. in Studio City, as having a “vintage” look with a “dusky, sort of rose” sapphire. The new bling is a Michael B. Trois Collection ring in platinum set with a 4-carat oval pink sapphire center stone surrounded by a total of 115 micropave diamonds.
“It’s the same color as my mom’s ring,” said Slater. “I actually don’t like pink. I say it’s a wine color.”
The dance pros met almost eight years ago and began dating two years later, but Farber says he knew Slater was the one just “three or four months” after they met.
Because Farber’s family lives in his native Australia and Slater’s family lives in her native England, Farber joked to reporters, “we may have three weddings!”
But the couple is in no rush to make things official. They plan to stay engaged about a year.
“We’ve been together five-and-a-half years. We bought a house recently and this feels like the natural progression. My mother said once that marriage should feel natural and not like a surprise. It should be expected because that’s when it’s right,” Slater told reporters. “It’s already felt like I’ve been his fiancé and wife for years now. Apart from the heaviness of my arm [because of the ring,] it feels quite natural.”
